Lord Ganesh Birth and Elephant Head
Goddess Parvati created a little boy out of turmeric and sandalwood paste while alone on Mount Kailash, giving him life and asking him to guard her door while she bathed. When Lord Shiva returned, Ganesha did not know him and blocked his entry. An angered Shiva struck off the boy's head. Upon realizing the truth and seeing Parvati's grief, Shiva promised to revive him by placing the head of the first living creature they found facing north—an elephant.
